What a difference a few years makes.
CNN commentator Scott Jennings endorsed Donald Trump for president after previously blaming the former president for the Capitol riot.
“President Donald Trump caused this insurrection with his lies and conspiracy theories about the election process being rigged against him,” Jennings wrote for CNN hours after the siege on Jan. 6, 2021.
“Now, all Republicans have a duty to support the republic and the Constitution by condemning this terrorism, rallying around the peaceful transfer of power and our constitutional institutions,” he urged.
That Jennings was almost nowhere to be found in his opinion piece for the Los Angeles Times on Friday.
He offered a flaccid “I was none too pleased with Trump after Jan. 6, 2021” in the Times before declaring:
“Today, millions of Republicans like me — who nearly upchucked a time or two on this crazy ride — are prepared to vote for him one more time as a bulwark against the cultural and governance excesses of the American left.
Simply put, I’m more worried about the country’s future than any problems I’ve had with Trump in the past.”
The official allegiance to the Republican nominee by Jennings, who worked for ex-President George W. Bush, isn’t exactly a shocker. His frequent role as a Trump apologist and conservative provocateur on CNN has made headlines of late.
